Last day of the year ?! Do we have to party ?

observe and listen

According to the Western world, today is the last day of the year. This date is synonymous with celebration, so we’ll eat and drink, perhaps until we can’t anymore, dance all night, watch fireworks, hear words from the president, and everywhere we’ll hear “Happy New Year!!!” The world becomes effervescent. But just because it’s a massive celebration doesn’t mean we must absolutely adhere to it. Why not question this festive injunction a little bit!?

This article is rather dedicated to those who do not feel connected to this celebration, who struggle to connect… and who may or may not feel the pressure from the outside world to belong to this celebration. To all these people, do not add a burden to yourself and do not condemn yourself because you are not in the mood, because you are alone, because someone is missing on this date…

The world is not you! If the world wants to celebrate, let it celebrate. If you want to isolate yourself, go to bed early, if you have no desire to go out and pretend to be happy, to smile all evening when you don’t feel like it, you can listen to yourself! You are not aliens, you are not boring, and sometimes it’s even satisfying to listen to yourself and go against the flow.

For my part, I believe this is the first time I will not celebrate the New Year. And maybe not the last! This doesn’t mean I don’t have friends or family to join in the celebrations. It just means I want to be with myself, to have time to read, to progress on projects, on my spirituality, on this blog, to learn, to focus on what truly interests me, what captivates me and fills me with satisfaction.

All this to say that if you want to go celebrate, go ahead! And if you don’t want to celebrate, you have the option to listen to yourself and prioritize yourself.

Now, if you have someone in your circle who says they don’t feel like celebrating, ask what motivates this choice and if it’s okay for this person to stay alone. If it’s important to listen to yourself, it’s important to listen to others as well.
